FBLA - Halloween Dress-Up Day
Posted:11/14/06

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) was excited to sponsor once again, “Halloween Dress-Up Day” for administrators, teachers, and staff at the High School. We had approximately 20 teachers who dressed-up for the occasion. The main idea behind “Halloween Dress-Up Day” is to receive donations from administrators, teachers, and students for FBLA’s State Project, the American Red Cross. The “Best Costume” Award and most monies collected went to Ms. Lyle, dressed as a “Starfish”. Ms. Lyle received a $15 dollar gift certificate. The total funds collected amounted to $302.07. Thank you to the FBLA student board, Mrs. Kilburn and Mr. Closky for sponsoring the event.

BHS and Public Libraries Collaboration
Posted: 10/18/06

The members of the public libraries discussed with Baldwin High School English teachers the following ways in which the public libraries and the high school library can work collaboratively to meet the educational needs of the students within the community.
Students can access the POWER Library from home via the Internet, using their library card. The POWER Library allows students to access thousands of full text periodical articles, newspapers, a major encyclopedia, plus photographs, pictures, charts, maps, and reference materials. An interactive calendar has been set up online by the community libraries for teachers to post school assignments in which the public libraries may assist in providing books and other resources. Now students and libraries will know objectives, deadlines, necessary materials, and requirements at the click of a button.
Together, the school and the local libraries want a library media program that is fully integrated into the instructional program of the school where teachers, students, and all library media specialists become partners in learning. However, remote access to electronic resources via the public libraries can not occur unless a student has a library card. The English teachers and high school library media specialist encourage parents to obtain a library card for the student in order to broaden student access to library resources.

ASA - Tobacco Awareness Assembly
Posted: 9/18/06

The ASA High School Tour made appearance at the Baldwin High School stadium on Monday, September 11, 2006.

The ASA High School Tour is an interactive “extreme” sports show that visits schools throughout the United States. Several of the world’s top professional skateboarders, bikers, and inline skaters performed demonstrations on a state-of-the-art pro half-pipe, signed autographs, answered questions and offered students the chance to participate in a variety of unique alternative sports-related contests.
Each show utilizes the “coolness” of extreme sports and the credibility of the top pros to communicate a teen advocacy message that focuses around tobacco-prevention. This event is sponsored by Nintendo, Verizon, and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.
